Position: Communications Trainee

Reports to: Project Associate – Communications
Location: Accra, Ghana

Job Profile Overview

The Communications Trainee will support the Project Associate in executing the African School of Regulation’s (ASR) communication strategies. The role focuses on digital content creation, web content management, and social media engagement, with a strong emphasis on IT skills. The trainee will assist in maintaining ASR’s online presence, updating the website, and creating engaging content for various platforms. Additionally, the role involves collaborating with the Project Associate – Communications
to brainstorm innovative ideas, improve digital communications, and strengthen ASR’s brand. A creative approach, strong writing and editing skills, and familiarity with content management systems and graphic design tools are essential for this role.

Responsibilities

  1. Digital Communication & Content Management:
  • Assist in updating and managing the ASR website ensuring it includes relevant news and updates.
  • Create, edit, and publish digital content, such as articles, videos, infographics, banners, and flyers, using tools like Buffer, Loomly, and Canva.
  • Support the development of social media campaigns, scheduling posts, monitoring engagement, responding to comments, and helping grow the audience.
  • Conduct basic website and social media performance analytics, providing insights for improvement.
  • Ensure timely dissemination of content and updates across ASR’s digital platforms.
  1. IT Support for Communication Activities:
  • Assist in troubleshooting technical issues related to digital content creation and web management.
  • Provide support for Learning Management System (LMS) updates, including uploading content.
  • Utilize digital tools such as Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar platforms to design creative assets.
  1. Online Course Support:
  • Collaborate with the Project Associate – Communications to manage communications with online course participants.
  • Facilitate the registration process for new students and assist with onboarding.
  • Offer support to students using the Learning Management System (LMS), assist with navigation and content access, and escalate any complex issues to the appropriate team.
  1. Online Event Support:
  • Assist in providing communication and technical support for online events, including webinars and conferences.
  • Help promote events and courses through digital channels, including social media, email newsletters (using Mailchimp), and the ASR website.
  • Support the creation of promotional materials and content for in-person and virtual events.
  1. General Support:
  • Perform administrative tasks to support the Project Associate – Communications and ASR team.
  • Contribute to brainstorming sessions for improving ASR’s digital outreach.
  • Stay updated on trends in digital communication and suggest innovative ideas to enhance ASR’s communications, ensuring consistency with ASR’s branding and messaging.

Educational Qualifications:

  • Recently completed a Bachelor’s degree in Communications, IT, Journalism, Marketing, Public Relations, or a related field.

Skills Required:

  • Strong IT skills, with experience in website management, scheduling tools (e.g., Buffer, Loomly), and analytics tools (e.g., Google Analytics) to track and optimize engagement.
  • Proficiency in digital content creation, including basic graphic design using tools like Canva or Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Familiarity with Learning Management Systems (LMS) and digital course platforms.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Basic knowledge of video editing and multimedia production is a plus.
  • Enthusiasm for learning and contributing to a dynamic team environment.

Experience:

  • Previous internship or volunteer experience in a related field is desirable but not required.
  • Familiarity with digital communication tools and platforms is an advantage.
