On 3 September 2025, ASR contributed to AFREC’s webinar on enhancing skills and institutional capacity in the African energy ecosystem.

Dr. Charly Gatete, a senior applied researcher at the ASR, presented an excerpt from the recently completed project with the AFREC ‘’Framework for Cross-Border Strategic Cooperation in Skills Sharing in the African Energy Sector’’, highlighting the importance of coordinated efforts in closing critical gaps and strengthening skills and knowledge sharing in the energy sector across borders.

Other highlights:

  • AFREC provided an overview of its capacity-building programme.
  • EDF presented progress and lessons from the Online Training on Smart Grid Technologies.
  • Strathmore University outlined upcoming trainings on renewable energy project planning, development, and financing.
  • MK Consultancy presented the progress of the Energy Capacity Building Information System, an IT-based platform that has the idea presented in the framework developed by the ASR as a component. ASR continues to contribute as a reviewer, ensuring the platform reflects the framework’s objectives.

The session brought together experts from Member States, including ministries, regulators, utilities, and representatives from power pools, academia, and other stakeholders in the African energy sector.

The ASR looks forward to continuing this dialogue and working with partners across the continent and beyond to strengthen Africa’s human capital for the energy sector.
