The African School of Regulation (ASR) was represented at the Eastern Africa Power Pool (EAPP) Regional Trade Conference in Mombasa, Kenya, on December 9–11, 2024. Prof. Ignacio Pérez-Arriaga, Interim Director of ASR and former advisor to the school, participated in a highly anticipated panel discussion titled “International Experience from Public-Private Participation (PPP) in Transmission—What Works, What Doesn’t?” The session focused on global perspectives and practical lessons for harnessing Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs) in transmission investments of regional significance.

  • Dr. John Mativo (MD & CEO, KETRACO): He presented Kenya’s efforts to implement the Independent Transmission Power model, positioning the country as a trailblazer in private-sector-led transmission development in Africa.

The discussion highlighted best practices, lessons learned, and strategies to attract private investment while aligning with regional energy infrastructure goals.
