The African School of Regulation (ASR) participated in a workshop organized by the African Energy Commission (AFREC) on Stakeholder Engagement on Cross-Border Strategic Cooperation and the African Energy Transition Strategy held in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, from December 10–13, 2024.

On the first day, ASR facilitated a consultative session focused on developing the Framework for Cross-Border Strategic Cooperation for Skills Sharing in the African Energy Sector. The ASR team presented preliminary findings based on data collected during prior consultations, including an analysis of existing cross-border skills-sharing initiatives. These findings are critical in shaping strategies to enhance skills development and sharing across Africa’s energy sector.

In the following sessions, ASR contributed to reviewing and validating the African Energy Transition Strategy and Action Plan, developed under the African Energy Transition Program. This initiative aims to align efforts across the continent to support a sustainable and equitable energy transition.

The workshop was highly successful, with positive feedback on ASR’s proposals and valuable stakeholder insights into cooperation areas and topics for advancing cross-border collaboration in the energy sector.

ASR remains committed to working closely with AFREC to:

  • Identify regional champions for capacity building and knowledge sharing.
  • Finalize the project’s final report and the cross-border cooperation framework.
  • Engage stakeholders in implementing a pilot program.
