Remuneration: USD83,750 – USD 94,721 (final remuneration dependent on experience and qualifications)
Duty Station: Accra, Ghana, open to African citizens only.
Background/Job Purpose
The ASR aims to be a centre of excellence in energy policy and regulation, providing practical skills built on a solid foundation, promoting independent discussion and knowledge exchange, conducting applied research to address emerging challenges, and providing a repository of knowledge resources on policies to achieve sustainable, reliable and affordable energy in Africa. ASR’s work is based on lessons learned and technical insights from actual experiences of regulatory implementation in African countries, as well as international best practices adapted to the African context.
The target audience for ASR’s activities are regulators, policy makers, academics, energy users and staff of utilities, mini-grid developers, solar home systems companies, consultants, investors, financial institutions and all other stakeholders working in the energy sector. Past activities include ASR’s flagship course ‘Power Sector Regulation in Africa’, virtual conferences on regulatory topics, in-person policy dialogues, webinars, podcasts and ‘ASR Talks’ with sector experts, demonstrating ASR’s ability to design and deliver high impact, relevant training programmes.
Job description
The Senior Training Associate leads the Training and Events department and will contribute to ASR’s mission by developing robust training curricula, coordinating impactful events, and engaging a network of subject matter experts. The main duties and responsibilities are:
- Lead the Training and Events department, oversee the training instructors ensuring high-quality delivery of programs and events that align with ASR’s mission and goals and meet industry-specific professional development needs.
- Build and sustain relationships with instructors, subject matter experts, and strategic partners to advance ASR’s capacity building initiatives.
- Lead the design and improvement of the training materials and curricula and develop strategies ensuring they reflect current trends and best practices and enhance participant engagement.
- Serve as an instructor for selected training sessions and events, delivering expertise directly to program participants.
- Oversee end-to-end administration of capacity building activities, including assignment grading, course planning, implementation, and quality assurance for the training activities.
- Collect, analyze, and report on data related to training and event effectiveness, participant outcomes, and overall program success.
Qualifications and experience
- Master’s degree in engineering, economics, law, development studies, or a related field (PhD preferred).
- Minimum of 8 years in a senior training or energy sector role within an academic, regulatory, or nonprofit organization. Expert knowledge of energy regulation in Africa is mandatory.
- Advanced skills in instructional design, curriculum development, and educational program management. Familiarity with Learning Management Systems (LMS) and recent educational technology tools. Demonstrated success in developing and implementing impactful educational programs.
- Proven ability to identify, recruit, and maintain high-quality relationships with instructors and industry experts.
- Excellent knowledge of English is required. Knowledge of French is an advantage.
