ASR Webinar

The African School of Regulation (ASR), in collaboration with Sustainable Energy Africa and GET.transform, hosted a webinar exploring how distributed energy resources (DERs), including rooftop solar and battery storage, are reshaping utility service delivery, revenue models and regulation.

The discussion examined the implications for African distribution companies already facing inadequate cost recovery and high losses. While DERs can reduce electricity sales and disrupt utility revenues, they also offer opportunities to improve flexibility, reliability, and grid support when appropriately valued.

The session considered how utility business models and regulatory approaches can evolve to manage these risks and capture the benefits of a more decentralised electricity system.
